Photographer Lisa Norman-Hudson describes national contest entry

In the comments made on-line regarding my photo entry, many thought my image was computer generated of a painting. To me thats a compliment and it means I shot the project correctly. Now many people are asking me how I shot the images so here goes!
The theme was, YOUR WORLD: The Art of Technology Through Your Eyes. Identify the innovation or technology that has had the greatest impact on your life and capture its beauty. Be creative! I chose the internet and how its connected our world. Visit the site at www.olympusamerica.com/yourworld. My image is not generated or a painting but I think its awesome that people think it is!This particular image took almost 3 hours to shoot and nearly 100 shots before I was happy with my entry. I used 3 lights on a white light table. I put a yellow gel on a light behind the table(sun), a second light with a blue gel and a 20 degree grid on it under table(earth). Then I used a 3rd light with a snoot shining on the glass paperweight world with wires that I cut and hot glued to it. The Olympus E30 camera allows you to do a double exposure on a frame so I shot a black poster board with holes poked into it and a bright light behind the poster board for the appearance of stars. I stood on a small step ladder above the table to shoot the photograph. It was shot using an Olympus 11-22, 2.8-3.5 lens at F22, 125th of a second @ ISO 200 on a tripod in a totally dark room. Put the 2 frames together and you see my version of the "World Wide Earth". One of my instructors at Pellissippi state said to our class, "you're a PHOTOGRAPHER when you get it right in the CAMERA and not in photoshop". Thanks Lisa Norman-Hudson. www.ThePurpleLens.com
